Jang Wooyoung (Korean: 장우영), also known by his first name Wooyoung (Korean: 우영, Japanese: ウヨン, Simplified Chinese: 祐榮) is a South Korean singer, songwriter, dancer and actor. He is the main dancer of the South Korean male idol group 2PM.
Early life
Wooyoung was born and raised in Busan, South Korea.
He always had a passion for dancing and knew that he wanted to pursue a career in music, even though his father was originally against it. His father had hoped he would become a civil servant, but Wooyoung did not give up his dream to become an entertainer and had secretly taken dance classes behind his father’s back, which was supported by his mother. There had been tension in the family due to the difference in views about Wooyoung’s career path, which almost led to his parents getting a divorce.[1]
He initially auditioned for JYP Entertainment by joining the auditions held for the Wonder Girls in Ulsan, but was rejected because he does not fit the basic criteria of being a female. He would later on audition for JYP Entertainment every six months without giving up. In 2007, he won first place in JYP Entertainment’s very first annual official audition, where he competed against 5,000 contestants. [2]
He studied in Seoul School for Arts as a high school dance major.
Career
Pre-debut
2PM
After participating in Mnet's idol training program Hot Blood Men, he was chosen to debut under 2PM. The group 2PM officially debuted on September 4, 2008, with the mini album Hottest Time of the Day.

Personal life
His family consists of his father, mother, and older sister Junhwa. His parents own a grocery store in Busan.
He graduated from Howon University as a Broadcasting major.
